Stretch foil or shrink wrap is often used for bundling bags of, for example, potting soil for distribution to the retail trade. These solutions are inexpedient in many ways, and Fisker Skanderborg has therefore developed a new method using tubular film.
Fisker has many years of experience supplying tailor-made packaging lines for packaging bags. It was therefore a logical choice for us to have a closer look at how we could develop a more effective method for bundling a large number of bags to be transported from the producers to their customers such as supermarkets and other retail outlets.
Problems with foil
“Today, many companies use stretch foil or shrink wrap to combine the bags into larger units,” says Sales Manager Peter Monrad Henningsen from Fisker. “These solutions present many disadvantages, as the stretch foil, for example, tends to give the large packages a round shape that makes it difficult to stack them appropriately on the pallet. The problem with the shrink wrap is that it has to be welded together, which may be difficult with plastic bags of soil, as you could end up welding everything together.”
Uniform packages
The new system uses tubular foil, which has the great advantage that the foil can be evenly stretched across the entire package. The result is a more uniformly square shape that is easy to stack. At the same time avoids the welding and the problems that welding may cause. “In addition, the solution is more energy-friendly and economical,” says Peter Monrad Henningsen. “You don’t have to use extra energy for welding, for example, which results in further savings for the customer.”
Well received by the customers
Fisker’s new system using tubular foil has been very well received by the customers, as it standardises the packages and makes handling more efficient.
The customers also consider it an advantage that the new solution can be incorporated into their packaging line. The solution is very flexible, and the customers can choose whether to bundle the bags using tubular foil or circumvent this part of the process, depending on whether they require individual bags or bundle.
