Norlund is one of the most modern softwood sawmills in the Nordic countries. At their site in northern Jutland, softwood from all over the country is sawn and certified structural timbers are produced with a focus on high quality Danish products that are as environmentally friendly as possible.
Packaging solutions of the future
Wood pellets, wood chips, and shavings (bedding) are now also part of Nordlund’s product range. The bedding is produced from shavings from the planing mill. This is a part of the green transition in which surplus materials from the production are converted into sellable products.
Particularly the packaging of wood pellets and bedding materials are the focal point of the new fully automatic packaging line, which Norlund has developed in collaboration with Fisker. The solution was designed to be installed in an existing building, which required quite a bit of ingenuity. “The fully automatic solution consists of one line with a bagging machine for bagging wood pellets and a parallel line with a hydraulic baler for the packaging of SPF-certified shavings for bedding,” explains Sales Manager Claus S. Rasmussen from Fisker. “The two lines both lead to the same end-of-line equipment with a stretch hooder, automatic labelling, pallet sorting and accumulation. This provides an efficient solution as well as good space utilisation.”
Ambitions have been achieved
“This new solution has achieved our ambitions for a fully automatic line that can be controlled by a single employee with an iPad,” says Nordlund’s CEO Jørgen Sølvsten Skriver. “Our collaboration with Fisker has been great all the way from the design to the drawings, the offer and the installation. There have been a few challenges during the commissioning, which is quite normal when many different machines in the production need to work together. This is something we’ve managed to solve together with all five of the suppliers.”
