With a new flexible line from Fisker to handle bags of grass seeds, DLF has now automated 90% of the process and reduced the amount of monotonous repetitive work for its employees.
DLF is a global seed company selling feed grass seeds as well as seeds for private and professional lawns and crops all over the world. The company has a market share of 50% in Europe and 25% globally.
Good communication
DLF and Fisker have been working together for more than 17 years on the development, supply and assembly of packaging lines. “We communicate really well with Fisker about the new plants,” says Works Manager Jack Runge Walther from DLF. “Once we have specified our requirements, they have the experience to put together the right solution.”
Tailor-made solution
The new plant is adapted to the customer’s layout and the space available. It has been combined with an existing bagging machine and comprises a robot, a box erector, a box closer and a bag grouping system. With this plant, DLF has automated around 90% of the process on its grass seed packaging line.

Many functions
The new plant can both pack the bags into boxes and place the filled boxes on a pallet. In addition, the robot can pick up the bags and place them in display boxes.
Today, the packaging line can be operated by a single employee compared with two to three employees in the past. At the same time, the employees’ working conditions have improved, as the amount of monotonous repetitive work has been reduced.
Assembly, training and service
Fisker was responsible for the assembly and commissioning of the solution and has subsequently trained a couple of employees from DLF to handle the day-to-day operation. “We have been operating since October, and the usual teething problems were quickly solved together with Fisker,” says Jack Runge Walther. “We have now also asked for a proposal for a service agreement for the solution, as we expect that this will guarantee us the most reliable operation and maximum uptime for the plant.”
