Land Energy has increased its production facilities by adding a new, complete system for the packing of briquettes. The complex system was designed and installed in collaboration with Fisker.
Land Energy is the UK’s leading producer of wood pellets and briquettes. The cornerstone of their business is a production facility situated in the scenic coastal town of Girvan in South Ayrshire, in south-west Scotland.
Fisker chosen once again
Fisker has previously been responsible for supplying Land Energy with a complete system for the production of wood pellets. “We’re pleased that the customer wants to keep collaborating with us,” says CEO Peter M. Henningsen. “Land Energy prefers a partner who can take responsibility for the machinery, installation, as well as the entire commissioning process, of the fully automated packaging line. That’s something we can do here at Fisker.”
Sustainable focus
Land Energy takes sustainability very seriously and carefully assesses each step of the production process. The raw materials used in the production process come from forests within a 130-kilometre radius of the factory, and for every tree felled for the production, a new tree is typically replanted within twelve months. As part of the sustainable focus, the new system is therefore able to package products in both plastic and cardboard, as well as in multiple formats.
Complicated design
“The design of a production line gets complicated in several respects when a production process must both run at high speed and enable changeover to multiple formats,” Peter explains. “Among other things, this requires us to increase the number of servo axis for the packing machine to ensure a fast, precise production line. We’ve accomplished this in cooperation with our external supplier Zambelli Packaging.”
The project for the new line started almost two years ago. Everything has been installed and is fully operational, and the briquette production line is running to the customer’s satisfaction. The system runs at both high speed and high capacity. It enables more than 80 pallets to be on the conveyor system at the same time.
