A bag-in-box solution for fish feed ensures optimal shelf life and easier handling. Fisker has developed a packaging solution for Trofi® that perfectly matches the customer’s requirements and available space.
Tromsø Fiskeindustri Trofi® in northern Norway has for many years been developing fish feed based on sustainable fish stocks. The company has an ongoing focus on innovation and development and was looking for a bag-in-box solution for packing its fish feed.
A bag-in-box solution offers better shelf life. The airtight, lightproof bag prevents oxygen from degrading the feed’s vitamins, while the outer cardboard box protects against impacts and sunlight. This results in less waste, easier handling and a fresher product.
Efficient solution with a modified bagging machine
“We have developed several solutions for packaging fish feed, but this is the first time in a bag-in-box format,” says CEO Peter M. Henningsen. “What is special about our solution is that the packaging can be completed in a single operation. We use a single modified bagging machine for the solution, whereas other solutions require multiple machines. At the same time, we have built the entire packaging line with bagging machine, labelling, robotic palletizing and wrappers so that it fits into the limited space the customer had available. We have also incorporated corrosion protection into the solution.”
Many opportunities
This bag-in-box solution opens a new market for Fisker. “We know that many customers can benefit from this solution for packing, for example, food products – vegetables, bread and similar items,” says Peter. “We have found a simpler solution that fully meets the quality requirements we set for all our solutions. Many will benefit greatly from this – including financially.”
